SUMMARY:Mental Health First Aid
DESCRIPTION:Mental Health First Aid teaches adults how to assist someone in the community\, a friend\, or a family member who is experiencing a mental health or substance use-related crisis. In the Mental Health First Aid course\, you learn risk factors and warning signs for mental health and addiction concerns\, strategies for how to help someone in both crisis and non-crisis situations\, and where to turn for help. \nWhen you take a course\, you learn how to apply the Mental Health First Aid action plan in a variety of situations\, including when someone is experiencing: \n\nDepression or anxiety\nPanic attacks\nSuicidal thoughts or behaviors\nNonsuicidal self-injury\nAcute psychosis (e.g.\, hallucinations or delusions)\nOverdose or withdrawal from alcohol or drug use\nReaction to a traumatic event\n\nThe hybrid course format allows you to learn the basics online at your own pace and then attend a live online or in-person session with a certified facilitator to apply and practice your skills through role plays\, scenarios\, and activities. The in-depth nature of this course allows you to feel prepared and confident when applying these skills in a real-life situation. \n*If you would like to attend the course and the cost is a barrier\, please email me to discuss scholarship opportunities.
